Twister – The frequency and depth of weather-related despair seems to be increasing every year. After a long history of human intrusion on atmospheric conditions, we are experiencing a rapid change in climate-related intrusion on human comfort and safety. Though we’re suffering in a storm, much of our own making, it’s not the first time humans have had to overcome long odds on a planet that’s not always hospitable.
The storm that swept Dorothy away in The Wizard of Oz, took her to a new land where a search for heart, brains and courage led to heroic determination in a motley crew. I think humans are a remarkable and motley crew rolled into an evolving society that advances by assimilating our successes and failures, as brutal as that process can be. Our yellow brick road is potholed and flooded but with heart, brains and courage we’ll survive the climate twister headed our way. I’d guess that hope and determination have always been the Ruby Slippers of our species. 2024

Concrete Pearl – I spend a lot of time walking and taking photographs in the urban neighborhoods I live and work in. There are fabulous pearls of human expression and presence that pop out at me from this concrete world. It feels like a treasure hunt for jewels that disappear too quickly, because the street is an ever-changing surface that eats our art, our debris, our effort, our mistakes, our thoughts – reflecting and then swallowing the animals we are. 2023
The photos and videos were taken 2017-2023 during my walks around Walker’s Point, Third Ward and Bay View in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Fog Shanty – The watery haze of fog seems to carry sound on a rich, enclosing wave. During a frigid week in January, a shanty song with a chorus of birds, fog horns and waves, gives shape and vibrance where mist hides what our eyes try to see.
